ChannelsTV Wins Best TV Station For A Record 12th Time

December 13, 2017: Channels Television, an independent 24-hour news and media television channel based in Ogun state, Southwest Nigeria, has won the Nigerian Media Merit Award (NMMA) for the “Best Television Station Of The Year” for a record 12th time.

The TV station was presented with the award which recognises media excellence in Nigeria at a ceremony in Lagos on Wednesday, December 13.

Channels Television, which has an audience of more than 20 million people, received its first NMMA award in the year 2000.

The TV station known for dominating the NMMA and also receiving recognition domestically and globally for its programming, went on to win ‘Best Station of the Year’ award in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Similarly, Channels TV Presenter, Gimba Umar, was named the Presenter of the Year at the award ceremony.

Operating in Nigeria’s popular broadcast media market, Channels Television is the first and only thriving national TV brand, dedicated solely to the dissemination of news.

The TV station which is owned by veteran broadcaster, John Momoh, is the first Nigerian broadcaster to stream its television programming live for 24 hours.

Channels primary focus is producing news and current affairs programs on Nigerian domestic issues. Its mission is to act as a watchdog on governmental policies and activities.

The parent company Channels incorporated was founded in 1992, a year before the Nigerian government deregulated the broadcast media and began broadcasting in 1995.
