December 17, 2017: When the chant of Thierry Henry(@ThierryHenry) comes up in the air in Nigerian football viewing centres, you don’t hear Henry, it sounds too European for Arsenal fans in the country who deify the France and Gunners legend, you must have heard them chant,  “Iiiiiigweeeee.”

Finally, these fans have gotten the chance, a rare experience to coronate Henry as the “Igwe of football,” thanks to Guinness. Henry who recently signed a deal as a Guinness ambassador has been spotted in the beer-producing company’s advertisements for sometime now.

The all-time Les Bleus and Arsenal top scorer is highly regarded amongst Nigerian football faithful for his goalscoring prowess and footballing skills. Henry who scored 56 goals for the French national team is a World Cup and  European Cup winner, both with France, a three-time EPL winner with Arsenal where he scored a record 228 goals, a La Liga and UEFA Champions League winner with Barcelona in a career that spanned France, an unsavoury sojourn at Juventus in Italy before stamping his feet on the grounds of English football as arguably the finest attacker seen in the history of the Premier League. Henry also played for the New York Red Bulls where he won the American MLS League title.

Henry was named “Igwe” by Arsenal fans for his immense ability to dig out a goal from the tightest of corners and has always been held in high esteem by Nigerians who believe he didn’t get enough individual accolades despite winning the PFA Player of the Year a record four times.

With Henry crowned as the “Igwe of football,” he joins Rio Ferdinand as former EPL stars who have visited Lagos to help in the promotion of the image of the state.

The former Monaco prodigy is currently the highest earning football pundit in the world after signing a five-year punditry contract with Skysports. He also doubles as the assistant manager of the Belgian national team, closely working with Spaniard, Roberto Martinez who’s the  Manager.  Credit: Cable.ng, Aledeh
