Nov 23, 2017: Primary and secondary school teachers in Bayelsa state will soon be compelled by the State government to take an assessment test.

The test would rate their ability to teach, and would form part of their qualifications for holding such jobs The Bayelsa state government is perfecting plans to conduct a mandatory assessment test for teachers in the state’s primary and secondary schools, Punch reports.
The development was made public by the state governor, Seriake Dickson, while declaring open a two-day meeting of the Joint National Public Service Negotiation Council in Yenagoa, the state capital.
The governor’s media aide, Francis Agbo, in a statement released on Wednesday, November 22, disclosed that the governor would soon forward a bill to make it compulsory for teachers to undergo the assessment in order to qualify to teach, to the state House of Assembly.
He stated: “A bill will be forwarded to the state House of Assembly to make it compulsory for teachers at the primary and secondary school levels to undergo some forms of assessment as part of their qualifications to teach in the state.
Recall that recently Kaduna State government conducted similar exams for 33,000 primary school teachers in Kaduna state after 21,780 of them failed.
