AI: Google boss Sundar Pichai discussed how important he thinks AI is

20 Jan 2018: Sundar Pichai said the technology will have such a massive impact on mankind it is similar to when early humans learned to use fire.

The company CEO was speaking at an event hosted by MSNBC and website Recode where he was quizzed about AI.

He described it as “one of the most important things that humanity is working on” adding: “It’s more profound than, I don’t know, electricity or fire.”

Google is currently leading the way in the field of AI, testing cutting-edge technologies.

Last month, it was revealed the tech giant’s supercomputer created its own “AI child”.

The computer-made system known as NASNet is able to identify objects, such as people and cars, in photos and videos.

According to studies, the Google “brain” can pick out these objects with an 82.7% accuracy rate – something the company says is better than any man-made AI system.

However, Mr Pichai also said that while people were right to be concerned about artificial intelligence, they should still “embrace” it.

He explained: “Look at a job like a radiologist. You might not need lawyers, which some people might celebrate… you might not need accountants.

“History shows that countries that pull back don’t do well with chance. So you have to embrace the change.” – DailyStar
