OPINION: IMPLICATIONS OF FASTER POPULATION GROWTH RATE THAN FOOD PRODUCTION RATE:

by Mayowa Michael Adeleye

Nigeria population grows at +3% rate while Nigeria economy grew out of recession in June 2017 at the rate of +0.55% marginal GDP growth, thus no real impacts of the positive economic growth rate on Nigerian lives yet.

In as much as the GDP growth rate is still lower than the population growth rate, the real impact of such economic growth would not be felt significantly.

After the 2nd quarter +0.55% GDP Growth, the next stage should be to sustain the +ve economic growth beyond the 3% population rate especially in the non-oil sectors and take economy beyond the rate of recovery.
