Stormy Daniels sued Donald Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen on Monday for defamation, according to court documents, escalating a legal battle between the American president and the porn star that the White House was struggling to contain.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, made the claim a day after her widely watched TV interview on “60 Minutes” on CBS. Daniels said she was threatened with violence to keep quiet about her alleged 2006 tryst with Trump.

At the White House, a spokesman in a briefing with reporters cast aspersions on her account. The White House has denied allegations that Trump had a sexual relationship with Daniels.

CBS Corp said the show drew its biggest audience in more than eight years, with 21.3 million Americans tuning in, more than double the previous week’s edition of “60 Minutes.”

Presidential spokesman Raj Shah told the briefing, “The president doesn’t believe any of the claims Ms. Daniels made in the interview last night were accurate.”

Asked if Trump believed Daniels was threatened, Shah said, “No, he does not. … There’s nothing to corroborate her claim.”

Daniels’ “60 Minutes” appearance also drew a denial from the president’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, that he was involved in the alleged threat of violence against her.

Daniels originally sued Trump on March 6, saying he never signed an agreement for her to stay silent about what she called their “intimate” relationship. Monday’s filing in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles amended the original lawsuit to say Daniels was defamed.

Her attorney, Michael Avenatti, said Cohen “meant to convey that Ms. Clifford is a liar, someone who should not be trusted, and that her claims about her relationship with Mr. Trump” were not true.

Daniels’ defamation allegation was based on a Feb. 13 statement by Cohen that she said hurt her reputation. Secure her silence amounted to an illegal campaign contribution, and that the agreement should be declared void.

Cohen has said he paid Daniels out of his own pocket, but has not explained why or if Trump was aware of the payment.

In filings with the Justice Department and Federal Election Commission, watchdog groups have said the $130,000 may have exceeded campaign contribution limits, violating U.S. law. Cohen has denied this.

California attorney Michael Overing, who specializes in defamation law, said it would be difficult for Daniels to prevail on her defamation claim because she is a public figure. To prove libel, she would have to show that a false statement was made with either reckless or purposeful disregard for the truth, Overing said.

Trump attorney Cohen’s denial of involvement in the alleged threat against Daniels came in a “cease-and-desist” letter sent to Avenatti shortly after “60 Minutes” aired that demanded a retraction and an apology. A copy of the letter was seen by Reuters on Monday.

The letter said, “Mr. Cohen had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with any such person or incident, and does not even believe that any such person exists, or that such incident ever occurred.” Daniels said the threat of harm was made by a stranger in a Las Vegas parking lot in 2011. Avenatti said on NBC on Monday that the man who threatened her while she was with her infant daughter was not Cohen, but “had to be someone that is related to Mr. Trump or Mr. Cohen.”

Last week CNN interviewed former Playboy model Karen McDougal, who described a 10-month affair with Trump starting in 2006. Trump was married to his wife, Melania, during both alleged relationships. In addition to denying Trump had sex with Daniels, the White House has said he denies having an affair with McDougal.

Actor and former bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger underwent heart surgery to replace a valve that was originally replaced 20 years ago, waking up with the words “I’m back” in a twist on his catchphrase, a spokesman said on Friday.
The original replacement pulmonic valve, which Schwarzenegger received in 1997, outlasted its life expectancy, so the former California governor chose to have valve replacement by catheter, spokesman Daniel Ketchell said in a statement on Twitter.
He was recovering and in stable condition at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, the statement said.
The 70-year-old Schwarzenegger “is awake and his first words were actually ‘I’m back,’” Ketchell said.
Schwarzenegger’s character famously says “I’ll be back” in his breakthrough role in the 1984 movie “The Terminator.”
Born in Austria, Schwarzenegger won the Mr. Universe bodybuilding contest five times and Mr. Olympia seven times before turning to acting, starring in action movies such as “Conan the Barbarian” and “Commando.”
He then went into politics, and was elected governor of California as a Republican in 2003 and 2006.

Nigerian pop star Folarin ‘Falz’ Falana has been praised for his latest music video titled ‘This is Nigeria’, that highlights several issues affecting the Nigerian people.

The video, is executed in a style to that of American artist Childish Gambino’s viral video ‘This is America’.

In ‘This is America’, Gambino highlighted issues of discrimination against African Americans and gun violence.

In ‘This is Nigeria, Falz highlights issues of Boko Haram’s kidnapping of girls and government’s slow response, drug addiction among the youth, corruption, conmen masquerading as pastors and the society’s preoccupation with reality TV shows among others.

Both videos had the desired viral effect with ‘This is Nigeria’ which was released on Friday raking up over one million views on YouTube in less than 72 hours.

P.Diddy praises Nigeria’s music industry

American hip-hop superstar, Sean Combs, alias P Diddy, hailed the igerian rapper’s efforts, telling his fans on Instagram he was ‘sending love to Nigeria’.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BjSNt8hFLkO/?utm_source=ig_embed

The cinematographer of ‘This is Nigeria’, Tayo Aina confirmed the inspiration taken from ‘This is America’.

‘‘The whole video was done in 3 one-take scenes. It’s very similar to Childish Gambino’s “This is America” but this time reengineered to cover the issues we face in Nigeria as a people, From drug addiction to lack of stable electricity and a lot more,’‘ Aina said while releasing a behind the scenes video of the project.

‘This is America’ is a 4 minute one take music video.

Falz, who is the son of popular Nigerian lawyer and human right activist Femi Falana, is no stranger to doing conscious music. He has previously called out the glorification of internet fraud in Nigerian music.

This is Nigeria Vs This is America

  • Both Falz and Gambino go shirtless in the music videos.
  • Both open with an execution of a blindfolded man; gun used in This is America, machete used in This is Nigeria.
  • Gambino and Falz both dance with school going kids; in This is Nigeria, they are veiled Muslim girls
  • Both have scenes from the church; Gambino shoots the choir, while Falz calls out the futility and dishonesty of Nigerian preachers
  • Both feature police forces; This is Nigeria features the notoriously corrupt police force.
  • Both videos tell their stories walking though a warehouse as different scenarios or issues play out.
  • This is America calls out the social media addiction and lavish lifestyles while ‘This is Nigeria’ calls out Nigeria’s preference of reality television show like Big Brother Nigeria in the face of serious issues like the abduction of girls in the Dapchi village.

Congolese rumba star Koffi Olomidé is sent back to trial in France over sexual assault and kidnapping.

According to a judicial source, the Congolese singer is suspected of having repeatedly sexually assaulted and secluded four of his dancers in the Paris region between 2002 and 2006.

61 year old Koffi Olomidé left France hastily in August 2009 and has since been under international arrest.

He will also have to appear for facilitating the entry and illegal stay of the four complainants in France, and for making them work illegally and by underpaying or depriving them of remuneration.

The four complainants, who escaped in 2006, filed complaints in 2007, 2009 and 2013. They have since never returned to DRC for fear of reprisals.

This is not the first time that the Congolese star has encountered trouble with the law.

Proclaimed king of rumba since the death of Papa Wemba in 2016, Olomide was imprisoned for four days in the same year he was alleged to have kicked one of his dancers. He was later released on bail.

In August 2012, Koffi Olomide, known in real life as Antoine Agbepa Mumba, was sentenced in Kinshasa to three months in prison for “assault and battery” against his producer.

In 2006, he was sentenced in France for a year for evading taxes.

Ponzi scheme, Mavrodi Mundial Moneybox (MMM), which collapsed over a year ago in some countries, particularly in Nigeria has finally shut down.

Mavrodi launched his controversial scheme in 2011 and crashed in Nigeria in December 2016; with millions of Naira belonging to Nigerians still missing.

The Ponzi scheme in a Statement on its official website on Friday said they were shutting down due to the death of the founder, Sergey Mavrodi, who died on March 26, 2018 .

The statement reads, ” Dear participants, after much deliberation, we have made the conclusion that continuing the System operation, without our leader and ideological inspire, is impossible and makes no sense. We all carried out the tasks he assigned to us, since we had no doubt in his genius and rightness of the path he had chosen. We are firmly aware of the fact that none of us has a full view of his conception’s profoundness and sequence of all the actions to achieve a final goal, declared in the “MMM’s Ideology”.

”Sergey Mavrodi’s broadmindedness scale is unprecedented. Therefore any attempts to continue the System operation without him are bound to fail. We respect him immeasurably and cannot afford to allow that our unskilled actions may cause profanation of his concepts.

”In view of the above, with deep sadness, we have to announce the ultimate and irreversible MMM closure.

”We also remind (as a matter of form) that all initially were fully aware of the risks and read the WARNING and confirmed that by checking the relevant box when registering.

”Hoping for your understanding, Administration.”

Mavrodi launched his controversial scheme in 2011 and crashed in Nigeria in December 2016; with millions of Naira belonging to Nigerians still missing.

A private university in Nigeria has been criticised for punishing students by shaving a strip into their hair. Punch newspaper has tweeted some of the pictures of the students:

Earlier this week tweeters shared videos showing men queuing up in an assembly hall for the punishment and walking out with the strips cut out of their hair:

The newspapers have differing accounts as to why the students’ hair was shaved at the Christian Covenant University in Ota, Ogun State.

One site, The Pulse, says the punishment was doled out to students who were not carrying bibles.

Another, Naija, says the punishment was for not going to all the religious services during Easter.

But, as Punch reports, they all agree that the University has come under an onslaught of criticism.

Among the disapproval is the accusation that the university is treating the students like children, that the students’ right to dignity was not taken seriously and that it was unhygienic to use the same clippers on multiple students.

The university has not yet commented in the Nigerian press.

Zimbabwe’s state broadcaster has banned programmes by so-called “prosperity and miracle prophets”, reports the private Daily News paper.

It quotes the head of radio at Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), Albert Chekayi, as saying he has temporarily suspended such broadcasts while he investigates listeners’ complaints.

Prosperity prophets preach about the “prosperity gospel”, which links wealth to Christianity.

They say the stronger one’s faith and the more one gives to the church, the more wealth one will ultimately receive from God.

Such clerics have been critisised for making money out of poor people
