Everyday comes with sunrise and sunset.

It can only spark curiosity, for one to be willing and ready to spend any amount in the pursuit of HONOUR on one hand.

While same is laid bare on a GOLDEN platter for someone else, just for the taking.

Aside curiosity, envy and a combination of negative thoughts is also developed against one who honour willfully beckons on, while some folks attempt to use resources, which the source is subjective to acquire same.

Every good news about the person drives the envious into a state of having a whirlwind within their head(s). This feeling could be pinned around some pictures trending where a particular eyeballs get fixed on a particular person, in about half an dozen shots taken at different locations, dates and events.

Everyone desires to develop the trait that makes people offer what others strive to have. A wishful thought it sometimes remain, so far people never try to pay the price that bequeaths honour on them, a heavy price that is attainable at a discount of moral restraint.

Our dear president rode to power, at a critical time, when NIGERIA was in dire need of one who has what it takes to cleanse a huge mountain of filth the successive government continuously dump at our individual and collective doorsteps. It got precarious that all hope seemed lost for a rebirth.

A personal trait our dear president is endowed with, overshadowed other prerequisites, this has pitched his backers against one another. While a lot is nursing the hope of actualisation of set objective, some of his initial backers have since thrown in the towel citing reasons like:
# endless wait where prompt response is required,
# perceived lopsided appointments, a critical sector this is being talked about is defence and security.
# overbearing tolerance of subordinates.
# refusal to effect a firm grip, resulting in poor delivery of governance.
# a media team who live in an illusion of doing wonders, but with a reverse gear.
It is not only former backers, several other stakeholders in the national project have also lamented about the turn of events.

It is gets to a crescendo where BUHARI whose profile towers so high, to be placed on a common scale with people whose character has been constantly questioned. This is someone who have warmed his ways into the hearts of people, especially in the northern region, over the years, where the people have constantly stood by him, going by the electoral figures of the three previous presidential elections.

As we journey towards another electioneering process. The elites who have constantly been having a running battle with BUHARI are once again up in arms to square it up to him in the build up to the 2019 election.

They have had his ACHILLES to capitalize upon. How well BUHARI and his kitchen cabinet get a full grasp of the situation remains sketchy, to me.

BUHARI’S profile can not afford to take a downward trajectory, not at this critical time, that he is yet to actualise his RESCUE mission on the state of national affairs.
The low level of things has it’s foundation rooted in the listed :

# a wait not worthy enough, the long period endured by the citizens is touted not be so justified going by the poor performance of some of the headship of critical sectors of the state affairs.

# appointment into sensitive security and defence sector is one view as being skewed towards a section of the nation, one in which sterling performance ought to have been used to shut up any form of cynicism, it has been sad that the president has been to tolerant of the headship of the security agencies, bringing up the issue of the parameter deployed in setting their targets as well as basis of assessment of their performance.

# just as for the security agencies, many people in government are viewed as having no business loitering the corridors of power, whereas they don’t just fill up numbers they are over-confident in their lack luster conduct, which embarrasses the government and her arrow head. The people can never base poor performance of heads of sectors in government to draw up a conclusion about those likely to be shown the exit door.

# we are actually having a democratic dispensation, where rights and privileges of even ordinary citizen should be upheld, this should never be seen as liberty to perpetrate and perpetuate acts likely to derail the tenets of governance. The government should never be tyrannical, yet there should be deliberate and calculated efforts at ensuring sanity. Situations of having to utter provocative statements capable of heating up the polity should be discouraged, whereby it can not be justified with verifiable facts, going public, making inflammatory statements should be addressed with tact. This is no call for a clampdown on the opposition!

# the war on graft is perceived as loosing the much needed bite, though we have had some landmark convictions a whole lot more is expected from the government, this very important, considering the sectional and selective insinuation.

An appraisal of the direction of the earlier listed weight hanging around the president’s neck, are easily traceable to the very surround of his.

There is urgent need to critically conduct a surgery on the assertion with a view towards having a great inroad as we approach the next election of 2019.
The president, going by some of his policies in recent times, is blessed with strategists, this is evident in some moves like the MKO ABIOLA’S honour, it was one that is far reaching.
A disturbing trend of having the president’s men turning out to be his ACHILLES needs to be looked into: from his media handlers, to his kitchen cabinet and his kinsmen who are seen to be hiding under the cover of the presidency to act with impunity.

The onus lies with the president to among other things : do the needful, as the ball lies within his court.

The body of a diehard Lionel Messi fan has been fished out from a river near Kottayam, two days after he went missing after his favourite team’s shocking loss in the ongoing Fifa World Cup being held in Russia, reports Manorama News.

Binu Alex, 30, was reported missing since Friday. His ‘suicide note’ saying he has nothing to look forward to now.

He was last seen watching the FifaWorld Cup match, according to his parents, has been missing from the house since 4am, a police officer, told IANS.

A team of police divers and locals on Friday searched the Meenachil river that flows by Arumannoor near here. However, the search was hampered due to heavy downpour. The body was finally found near Illickal.

“A quick search revealed a suicide note in which he says he is leaving the world as he has nothing more to watch and see,” said the officer.

A close relative of Alex told IANS that he was a hardcore Messi fan and his mobile phone had a picture of Messi as the wallpaper.

“On Thursday, he purchased a T shirt like the one worn by Messi and sat down to watch the match. In the morning when his mother got up at 4am to prepare food for Alex, she saw that the back door of the kitchen was open and immediately called her husband.

“They then went to check on Alex and found that he was missing,” said the relative, adding that police was called then.

Alex was unmarried and works as an accountant in a private company here.

Both Nigeria’s clash with Argentina and Iceland’s match with Croatia take place simultaneously on Tuesday.

The Super Eagles could find themselves relying on the Group D leaders – who plan to leave big names out against Iceland – to reach the knockout stages.

Two goals from Ahmed Musa ensured Nigeria remain in the hunt for a place in the knockout stages as they saw off Iceland in Volgograd.

Nigeria Super Eagles needs a victory over Argentina in Saint Petersburg to reach the last 16 for the fourth time in history.

And though a defeat to the Argentina would confirm their elimination, a draw would mean they require Croatia to do them a favour against Iceland.

Croatia have already booked their place in the latter stages of the competition, and as such manager Zlatko Dalic has vowed to leave out some of his star players in a bid to conserve their fitness.

Nigeria have faced Argentina four times in their previous five World Cup appearances, losing on all four occasions, but the form of the South American outfit have raised hopes that the Super Eagles can end that run.

Despite having Lionel Messi in their number, Jorge Sampaoli’s side have picked up just one point from their two games thus far, including an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Croatia on Thursday.

The Federal Government has issued an Executive Order for the removal of Value Added Tax (VAT) from “All Forms of Shared Transportation,” which we believe includes air transport.

The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for listening to the cries of domestic airlines in the country by issuing an Executive Order for the removal of VAT from “All Forms of Shared Transportation,” which includes air transport.

Nogie Meggison, AON chairman, said: “We as Nigeria have been crying out for decades now for discussions on the immediate removal of VAT from domestic air transportation in line with global best practice, but we have barely been heard over the years. VAT is an added burden on our passengers who have limited disposal funds and have reached their elastic point in this difficult time in the nation’s economy.

“This adversely affects the sector by reducing the number of those who can afford to travel by air due to high fares in this tough economic time. This has been shown to be true according to a recent report from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) that passenger traffic dropped by 27% in 2017 and by another 7% in the first quarter of 2018 making it a total of 34% drop in passenger traffic within a span of one year.”

Furthermore, he noted that: Domestic Air transportation in Nigeria is the only mode of commercial transportation that pays VAT. Road, rail, marine and even foreign airlines operating in Nigeria don’t pay VAT in their home country or in Nigeria with reference to an information circular by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) which grants them VAT exemption (Information No.: 9701; Circular Dated 1st Jan. 1997); Part L (b) No. 8.

VAT on commercial air transportation is a huge departure from what obtains worldwide and an increased burden on the Nigerian travellers. Ghana, Benin Republic, Togo and Cote d’Ivoire located next door to us have all abolished VAT for air transportation.

He said the recent decision by the Federal Government to remove VAT from Domestic Air Transportation will go a long way to bring succour to groaning Nigerian travellers to be able to afford to travel by air and the growth in demand for domestic air travel will lead to the creation of jobs by the whole air transport service chain (airlines, airports, ground handlers and catering companies) as well as increase revenues for government.

The leadership of House of Representatives, on Wednesday, vowed not to concede to plan by President Muhammadu Buhari to turn the legislative arm of government to rubber-stamp.

The House’s reaction came barely 2 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari signed the N9.120 billion appropriation bill into law.

In his speech, Buhari had accused National Assembly of introducing 6,403 projects worth N578 billion after cutting 4,700 projects worth N347 billion from the budget proposal presented to the joint session of the National Assembly in November, 2017.

The President who argued that most of the newly introduced projects fall within the purview of States and Local Governments, were not “properly conceptualized, designed and costed” maintained that they will be difficult to execute, adding that

In his reaction, Abdulrazak Namdas, chairman, House Committee on Media and Publicity however noted that the House and indeed National Assembly acted in tandem with relevant provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) which confer upon the Legislature, the power of appropriation.

“The House of Representatives is appreciative of President Muhammadu Buhari in signing the 2018 Appropriation Bill into law and wish  to make the following observations:

“That the budget is usually a proposal by the Executive to the National Assembly, which the latter is given the constitutional power of appropriation to alter, make additions, costs or reduce as it may deem necessary.

“The Legislature is not expected to be a rubber-stamp by simply approving the Executive proposals and returning the budget to Mr. President. Therefore, the additions Mr. President complained of in his speech are justifiable.

“We are on the same page with Mr. President in his desire to return our budget cycle to January-December. By the provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007, the budget estimates should be with the National Assembly around September of the year.

“In the case of the 2018 budget, the estimates came behind schedule in November 2017, even though this attempt was seen as one of the earliest in recent years. Going forward, we urge the Executive to speed up the reporting time to the National Assembly by complying fully with the FRA.

“Besides, there were delays that should be blamed on the heads of MDAs. Mr. President will recall that he had to direct ministers and heads of agencies to go to the National Assembly to defend their proposals. This came after the National Assembly had persistently raised the alarm over the non-cooperative attitudes of these government officials. On this grounds, the delay in passing the budget cannot be blamed on the legislature,” he said.

While responding to allegations on the new projects, Namdas said: “On this aspect, we have to remind Mr. President that we are representatives of our people and wish to state that even the common man deserves a mention in the budget by including projects that will directly affect his life positively.

“Some of the projects designed by the executive, as high-sounding as their names suggest, do not meet the needs of the common man,” Namdas observed.

In response to the allegations on the N73.96 billion increase in the National Assembly’s Statutory Transfers, Namdas explained that: “before 2015, the budget of the National Assembly was N150 billion for several years. It was cut down to N120 billion in 2015 and further down to N115 billion in 2016. In 2017, the budget was N125 billion and N139.5 billion in 2018. This means that the budget of the National Assembly is still far below the N150 billion in the years before 2015.

“While we commend Mr. President for a good working relationship, we also wish to state that we have a job to do, which requires adequate funding as well. The additional costs and projects to the budget were done in good faith for the sole purpose of improving the lives of Nigerians.

“Finally, we welcome the proposal by Mr. President to forward a supplementary budget to the National Assembly to address other areas of pressing demands and commend the President and the entire executive arm for a cordial working relationship,” the Adamawa lawmaker stated.

The Saudi Arabian national team’s rough start to World Cup continued on Tuesday, as the team’s plane caught fire in midair. Flames were spotted coming out of the engine of the Russian Airlines Airbus that was carrying the Saudi team to Rostov, where it is set to face Uruguay on Wednesday.

Thankfully, the plane landed safely at Rostov-on-Don Airport and no one was harmed.

The Saudi Football Association issued a statement saying that “The Saudi Football Federation wishes to reassure everyone about the safety of all the members of the mission of the national team after a minor technical malfunction in an engine.”

The statement was followed up by a tweet from the federation’s official Twitter account.

According to the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, all the Saudi national team players have arrived safely in Rostov-on-Don this afternoon to play against Uruguay, and currently are staying in their residence, and that the fire was merely an accident.

While the incident was alarming, to say the least, just watch the video in the below tweet, it seems no one onboard the Airbus A319-100 was hurt. The Saudi team was seen calmly leaving the plane on its way to the team hotel in Rostov.

Mexico’s goal celebration against Germany quite literally caused a minor earthquake as fans’ wild reaction sparked seismic activity in the nation’s capital.

Mexican authorities reported the reading was recorded at the exact time Mexico took the lead in their Group F World Cup opening match against Die Mannschaft.

Germany were the strong favourites going into the clash, but it was Mexico who started much the brighter side at the Luzhniki Stadium.

PSV winger Hirving Lozano found the back of the net with a spectacular effort ten minutes before the break, sparking wild scenes both inside the packed ground, and back in Mexico.

Mexico went on to win the game, so we can only imagine how wild the celebrations will be late into the night in both Russia and South America.

But it was the reaction immediately after Lozano’s goal that caused an “artificial” earthquake, as SIMMSA – the body monitoring and analysing seismic activity in Mexico – so brilliantly put it.

SIMMSA tweeted: “Earthquake detected in Mexico City during the goal by the national team in the World Cup.”

It later added: “The earthquake detected in Mexico City originated artificially. Possibly by massive jumps during the goal of the Mexico team in the World Cup. At least two sensors inside the City detected it.”

Germany boss Joachim Loew spoke out after his nation’s defeat and claimed theywere “jinxed” after their shock opening defeat.

“Everybody is really unhappy and crestfallen but we have to put this behind us,” said Loew. “Our team has experience of losses.

“We had a couple of shots, but it seemed jinxed and the ball did not go into the goal.

“In the first-half we played very badly. We were not able to impose our usual way of playing, attacking, and there were lots of counter-attacks against us and we were very vulnerable.

“In the second half, we were able to press more, but Mexico drew back and then carried the ball forward fast.”

Mexico’s match-winner Lozano said: “It’s one of the biggest wins in Mexico’s history, for sure and it’s the best goal I’ve scored in my life.

“We all dream of playing in a World Cup and to start in such a positive and important way – I think it’s my best goal by far.”
