A novelty match between the Executive and Legislative arms of government in Ondo State to commemorate the one year anniversary of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, ended 2-2 draw.
The state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, led members of the state Executive Council squad to slug it out with the members of the State House of Assembly at the competition.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters and Mobilisation, Mr. Tunji Fabiyi grabbed the first goal for the Executive while Hon. Olamide George equalised for the Lawmakers.
Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi made it 2-1 but the Legislators through Hon. Akinyele Fasogbon again equalised in the second half.
Governor Akeredolu in the second half of the game dumped his defence duty and stood between the goal posts as the Executive goalkeeper.
As Executive goalkeeper, the Governor twice saved shots from Hon George and Maito.
Speaking after the match, the Governor promised to give equal attention to all sports in the state stressing that his administration will continue to honour sportsmen and women.
The two teams displayed high level of football skills which also showed that they are also good at playing football apart from offering good governance.
Speaking at the end of the novelty match, held at the state sports stadium in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Sports, Hon. Olamide George, described fitness of the mind and body as very key to good governance.
The novelty match attracted top government functionaries.
Hon George who said the match was to commemorate the one year of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, in office equally said sports is essential for the mind, soul and body.
In his remarks, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun who appreciated God for a good outing called for more of such activities, noting that keeping fit is important to staying healthy.
The novelty match which ended 2-2 draw is to also build a more robust relationship between the Executive and Legislative arms of government in the state.
