Ondo Govt to select 1,000 youths per LGA for agro-entrepreneurship

November 20, 2017: 18,000 unemployed youths across 18 Local Government areas in Ondo State will be selected by the Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu led administration for training and empowerment as agro-entrepreneurs in the 1st phase of empowerment through the Ondo State Agro-Business Empowerment Center (OSAEC). This is according to a recent press statement  by the Chairman of OSAEC and Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture, Pastor Akin Olotu in Akure.

He reiterated the commitment of the Ondo Sate Governor Akeredolu  to ensure that Ondo State youths are engaged in fruitful ventures across the state.  According to him, the youths would be drawn from the 18 Local Government Areas across the state, one thousand from each area, and charged all youths to get their forms, go online for the registration.

He assured the people that the state would continue to experience progressive development and way out of the recession, adding that the governor is doing his part and has approved the screening exercise to proceed the training.

‘The government has a plan for 1,000 youths in each Local government area to be trained. Making it 18,000 in the whole state. Mr Governor has approved the screening exercise. They are already filling forms with us and doing it online.

‘Afterwards, we will launch in to 2 fields of training. First is the generic, they will be trained on what agro-business entails generally then the second part they will break into specialised one. Those going to poultry, piggery, cattle rearing, among others. Individual will follow what they want to do.

‘We will give them training, thereafter, will empower them to be on their own. After the training they will form cooperatives, we will introduce them to the banks, they can work on  any of the windows and will get support from the state government’, he concluded.
