“SayNoToDrugAbuse: Stop Mixing What You Don’t Know”- Olamide Breaks Silence

Jan 21, 2018:  Talented Nigerian musician and arguably, the king of street pop in Nigerian music, Olamide Adedeji a.k.a Olamide Baddo has stated the idea behind his “science student” song.

The song which was recently released has sent the streets into wild dancing moods as it also sparked a debate about Olamide’s tendency to promote what the society abhors, most recently, drug abuse.

Olamide, known for his beautiful but sometimes vulgar Yoruba blend of music and the accuracy of his slangs had dropped some lines in the songs that dovetailed towards supporting the reckless usage of drugs and drinking irresponsibly, according to the public courts.

A more careful approach to listening to the song may cause one to resonate along with Olamide’s insistence on meaning well with the song as some of the lines are not outwardly awkward as most suggest.

His usually jocular nature might have done little to help him as his delivery seems sometimes tongue-in-cheek keeping his intentions at large and leaving people to keep guessing, which most times may be wrong.

In his previous hit single, “Wo,” Olamide was accused of promoting the indiscriminate usage of Tobacco by people in his music video.

In an Instagram post, Olamide gave it all and wrote about the real reasons for releasing the song, “science student.” He wrote in the well delivered message ;

“Since the release of #ScienceStudent, the support has been massive. As you are all sharing, dancing, singing along to this relatable music of mine, I want you all to take some time to reflect on the subject, say no to drug abuse. Don’t abuse alcohol, stop mixing what you don’t know about. Live responsibly and drink responsibly. Don’t aspire the highness state but a state of purpose fulfillment and passion discovery. Together let’s put an end to drug abuse and save as many lives as possible. The video will be out soon and I can’t wait for you all to see it. #SayNoToDrugAbuse #DrinkResponsibly #ScienceStudent
