Nigeria Is Delivering On A New Railway System

Jan 5, 2018: Nigeria will soon be home to a brand new railway system, thanks to the government’s railway modernization project. 144km of new tracks connecting Lagos to Ibadan, the third largest city in Nigeria, is part of the second stage of the government’s project.

After completing the new railway between Abuja, the capital, and Kaduna, the second stage connecting Lagos with Ibadan is underway.

Later, a third stage will be set into motion, connecting Port Harcourt to the south side of Lagos.

The Federal Minister of Transportation, Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has made it clear that the new railway system is “critical to development”, continuing to say the following, “Most countries which have no railway are slow to develop. We think that it’s time to increase the pace of development.”
