The signing of anti-grazing law by Benue & Taraba States is unconstitutional….Fulani are citizens with right to live in every part of Nigeria’ – Right Without Violence Coalition

Feb 2, 2018: A coalition of legal practitioners under the auspices of Right Without Violence has said that the current trend of disparaging people of Fulani extraction is dangerous for Nigeria’s unity.

The coordinator of the group, Dr. Ahmed Jibril, made this known on Thursday in Zaria, saying that the Federal Government needs to take urgent measures to bring the lingering herdsmen/farmers crisis to an end.

He said: “Our survival as a nation is at stake. We cannot sit down helplessly and watch. Federal Government must take urgent steps to avert bloodshed in Nigeria. Fulanis are bonafide citizens of Nigeria and they have the right to live anywhere in Nigeria just like any other Nigerian.

“We shouldn’t allow Nigeria to be like Rwanda, Burundi or Liberia, where ethnicity threw them into prolonged crisis, because a house divided against itself cannot stand.

The signing of anti-grazing law by Benue and Taraba States is dangerous and total violation of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The two states should be held responsible for the loss of lives, which their reckless action caused.”

The group urged the Federal Government to investigate and fish out the perpetrators of previous and present crises with a view to making them face justice
