Pastor Philip Igbinijesu of the Word Assembly has declared that any member of his church without a Permanent Voters Card (PVC) will not be allowed to partake in the church’s communion.

The cleric made the declaration in short video uploaded on YouTube on Friday, March 30.

He said those who do not have voters card should sit down when other members are taking the communion in church.

He said those talking and praying for Nigeria but had no PVC’s were doing so in vain, adding that individuals without voters card were enemies of Nigeria.

The Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, Tuesday led hundreds of farmers in the state to launch a pyramid of rice in Maiduguri, the state capital.

The thousands of bags that was piled into a pyramid at the city’s civic centre, Ramat Square, was a demonstration of the bumper harvest recorded in parts of the state during the last farming season by farmers who are mostly assisted by government.

The pyramid was realised under the federal government assisted Borno Anchor Borrowers Programme, through the (CBN) Anchor Borrowers scheme.

The scheme is aimed at scaling up the local production of rice in order to reduce over-dependence on foreign import of the staple food.

Organisers of the rice pyramid programme, Wal Wanne and Sons Ltd, said about 18,000 farmers were engaged in the scheme.

The local formers in the safe zones like Jere, Konduga, Mafa, Biu, Hawul and Shani local government areas of the state took part in the scheme during the last wet season during which government availed them with farm inputs and tool. – Premium Times

The Emir of Anka in Zamfara, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmad, says he has lost confidence in security personnel to protect his people and he is therefore seeking the assistance of the United Nations and the African Union.

The first class traditional ruler made this known in his palace when the Governor Abdulazeez Yari of the state paid a condolence visit on Friday.

The emir expressed shock that in less than a week after President Muhammadu Buhari visited the state and charged security agents to brace up and end all forms of insecurity, insurgents still carried out mass killings.

He said he had lost confidence in the ability and commitment of the security personnel because they had failed in the discharge of their obligations to provide security to the lives and property of the law abiding residents in his domain on different occasions.

According to him, the only hope for the state is to seek the assistance of UN or African Union (AU) in fighting the insurgency in the state.

He alleged that corruption among the security agencies and judiciary was the factor fuelling the security problems in the state, saying he will make available list of all identified corrupt security personnel and judges to the state as soon as it would be possible.

He stressed the need to secure permanent base for security agencies to protect the areas under constant attacks by the gunmen.

Dozens of locals are feared dead after suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked Umenger community in Guma local government area of Benue state.

According to the reports available to NIGERIANEWS.ca, the attackers butchered several persons, including children and some village elders on Thursday, March 22.

Among those killed in the latest attack, were one James Apav and Ataki Mageri.

The attackers also razed another village called Tse Sameka.

“Several persons have deserted their homes for fear of being killed by the heavily armed herdsmen,” a source quoted in the report said.

The attack has also been confirmed by the Benue state government.

Terver Akase, the chief press secretary of the Benue state governor has confirmed the attack.

“I can confirm that armed herdsmen this morning attacked Umenger community in Guma local government area of Benue state.

“The herders killed and injured some of the farmers who had gone to get food from their farms.

“While we condemn this unwarranted attack, we expect that the killers will be apprehended by security agencies and brought to justice,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, Governor Ortom has pleaded with federal government to upgrade the Exercise Ayem A’ Kpatuma to a full military operation to effectively check the ongoing killings in the state’s rural communities.

Governor Ortom, who made this statement on Monday, March 19, while inspecting four Internally Displaced Persons ( IDPs) camps at Abagana in Makurdi, said full army presence in the state may help to prevent the attacks.

Femi Fani-Kayode, former minister of aviation, and Reno Omokri, former aide of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, squared off on Twitter over the opinion of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar on how herdsmen should be referred to.

In an interview on March 8, Abubakar said it was wrong to refer to killer herdsmen as Fulani.

“It is a misnomer to use the term ‘killer herdsmen of Fulani extraction’ or ‘killer Fulani herdsmen,” Abubakar had said.

“The vast majority of Fulani people are peaceful and live in harmony with other ethnicities. When kidnappers kidnap, we do not identify them by their ethnicity. We identify them as kidnappers, pure and simple. There may be fringe elements with criminal tendencies. Some may be Fulani. Some may not even be. Let us identify them by their activities and not by their ethnicity.”

But Fani-Kayode, on Saturday, said he was shocked by Abubakar’s assertion, adding that “it is most unlike him to speak in this way”.

“Is it so difficult for us to accept the ugly truth and to call a spade a spade?” he asked.

“Must we continue to mock the memories of those that have been slaughtered by shielding those who butchered them? Have we no shame or remorse? Are this childish semantics and infantile denials really necessary?”

Replying to his comment, Omokri said Fani-Kayode misquoted Abubakar and put words in his mouth.

According to him, most of the herdsmen perpetrating the act are Mbororo, adding that they “differ from the Fulani as the Tiv defer from the Igbo”.

Citing an example of Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, suspected kidnapper better known as Evans, Omokri said Evans is known as a kidnapper, not “Igbo kidnapper”.

He asked Fani-Kayode to apologise, asking if he would like such to be done to him.

“Read what you quote @Atiku as saying and read what @Atiku actually said. Note that they are 2 different statements. You misrepresented him. You twist his words. Your quote was dishonest. Quote Atiku. Don’t put your words in his mouth! You won’t like it done to you!” Omokri wrote.

“Actually, most of those involved in these killings are Mbororo also known as Bororo. I did a broadcast on this last year in London. If the Mbororo speak, the Fulani cannot understand them. The Mbororo differ from the Fulani as the Tiv defer from the Igbo.

“Recently the police arrested a notorious kidnappers known as Evans. Evans was even discovered to have been a billionaire. But neither the media or Femi Fani-Kayode described Evans as an Igbo kidnapper or a Yoruba kidnapper. He was just a kidnapper.

“Boko Haram became the deadliest terror group in the world in 2014. It has been established by independent sources that most Boko Haram fighters, are Kanuri from Borno/Yobe, but we do not call them Kanuri terrorists. We call them terrorists pure and simple.

“It is obvious who is being dishonest here. Look at the 2 quotes. Nigerians can read for themselves. You misquoted @atiku. It is in black and white. Plain as day. Why did you not just quote what he said? Why did you have to add and remove to what he said?

“Let us face the issue at hand instead of trying to divert it. You dishonestly misquoted @atiku and this is the proof. Be man enough to accept it and apologize. Would you like it if it’s done to you? Look Femi, you lied. Deal with it. I will not follow you into the gutter. I don’t need to suck up to @atiku. I made a fortune in US dollars from just one bestseller! I suck up to the truth not to men! You told a lie. Fess up to your lie.”

However, Fani-Kayode hit back at Omokri, asking him to “be a man” and call a spade a spade.

He insisted that “ALL Fulani terrorists and herdsmen are Fulani”.

“@renoomokri ….for God sake stop sitting on the fence and hedging ur bets. Be a man, call a spade a spade and stop trying to suck Atiku’s Fulani rectum.Real pastors don’t eat arseholes. Trust me, Atiku will respect u more if u tell him the truth and tell him when he is wrong,” Fani-Kayode said.

“Bad choice. There is no comparison. Not ALL BH fighters are Kanuri but ALL Fulani terrorists and herdsmen are Fulani. They are represented by Miyetti Allah which is an org. with a Fulani leadership. Finally most of their own Fulani leaders call them Fulani herdsmen. READ MY ESSAY!

“Not only must we cage the Fulani terrorists but we must also identify and crush the traitors within our ranks that lick their arses for money and favour and encourage them to unleash genocide against our people. Those that do that are worse than vermin, vultures and cockroaches.”

This is not the first time that both men will disagree in public. In 2016, they were involved in a public spat over a comment by Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder of Facebook.

Fani-Kayode had expressed reservations about Zuckerberg’s description of the Hausa language as unique but Omokri, who saw nothing wrong with what Facebook co-founder said, tackled the ex-minister.

Of all the major players in country’s oil sector, only the Nigerian National Petroleum Company NNPC, has not complied with the requirements of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, its secretary said.

The national oil company is unable to explain the intent of a total of $22.7 billion. However, this money was collected by the NNPC after the sale of operating licences. And the receipt of 15 years of dividends in a consortium where the oil company owns stakes.

The NNPC spokesman did not comment on these accusations.

The Nigerian Initiative’s Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative does not have the means to hold a company to account.

However, the secretary says that his reports have allowed the federal government to trace billions of dollars that had been misappropriated.
