CHAN 2018: Nigeria, Rwanda record slim wins, Libya lose, Eq. Guinea out

Jan 20, 2018:  Day two of games in the ongoing Championship of African Nations (CHAN) produced a goal each as Nigeria beat Libya and Rwanda also beat Equatorial Guinea.

The Nigerian side recorded their first win in the tournament thanks to Ibrahim Mustafa’s strike on the 79th minute mark. The team had drawn goalless with Rwanda in their first game. For Rwanda, Thierry Manzi’s 66th minute strike was enough to secure them all three points.

Libya had also recorded an emphatic win over Equatorial Guinea in the first match earlier this week.

By implication, Nigeria and Rwanda are tied on four points, Libya will have to beat Rwanda to make it past the group. Nigeria will need to draw to progress whiles Equatorial Guinea have been effectively eliminated.

In matches slated to today, teams in the Group D will face off at the Le Grande State in Agadir. Angola and Cameroon will play the first game before Congo take on Burkina Faso in the late fixture.

Already in Group A, hosts Morocco and Sudan have already booked their places in the knock out rounds. They were joined by Zambia and Namibia as Ivory Coast and Uganda crashed out.

Namibia, playing at CHAN for the first time stunned Ivory Coast in the opening game with a late winner and on Thursday night, they beat Uganda by the same scoreline, 1-0, making it two wins in two games.
