{"id":7840,"date":"2018-02-26T22:17:46","date_gmt":"2018-02-27T05:17:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nigerianews.ca\/?post_type=news&#038;p=7840"},"modified":"2018-02-26T22:17:46","modified_gmt":"2018-02-27T05:17:46","slug":"google-play-apps-games-store-now-accept-m-pesa-mobile-payments","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/nigerianews.ca\/news\/google-play-apps-games-store-now-accept-m-pesa-mobile-payments\/","title":{"rendered":"Google Play apps &amp; games store now accept M-Pesa Mobile payments in Kenya"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"program--Business programBlockHeader\">Google Play apps and games store has started accepting payments in Kenya through popular mobile money platform M-Pesa, to boost downloads in a market where many people do not used credit cards.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"program--Business programBlockHeader\">Safaricom, the telecommunication giant behind <span class=\"caps\">MPESA<\/span> said on Thursday that it had partnered with London-based global payments platform provider, <span class=\"caps\">DOCOMO<\/span> Digital, to enable users pay through M-Pesa.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"program--Business programBlockHeader\">\u201cThis is very important to the developer ecosystem in markets where credit card penetration is low,\u201d said Mahir Sain, head of Africa Android partnerships at Google, which is owned by Alphabet Inc.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"program--Business programBlockHeader\">M-Pesa, which enables customers to transfer money and pay bills via mobile phone, has 27.8 million users in the nation of 45 million people where Google\u2019s Android platform dominates.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"program--Business programBlockHeader\">M-Pesa has been mimicked across Africa and in other markets.Safaricom has 13 million smart phones on its network, most of them using the Android platform.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"program--Business programBlockHeader\">Safaricom has been looking to expand M-Pesa for some time, as reported in 2017, but its hands have been tied by the wishes of its parent company, Vodafone, according to <span class=\"caps\">PYMNTS<\/span>.com.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"program--Business programBlockHeader\">The company is much larger than its two main competitors in the local mobile market, with 29.4 million users \u2014 71.9 percent of Kenya\u2019s total market.
