{"id":9234,"date":"2018-03-21T21:58:29","date_gmt":"2018-03-22T03:58:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nigerianews.ca\/?post_type=news&#038;p=9234"},"modified":"2018-03-21T22:00:37","modified_gmt":"2018-03-22T04:00:37","slug":"massive-arrival-of-illegal-african-migrants-in-israel-worse-than-terrorists","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/nigerianews.ca\/news\/massive-arrival-of-illegal-african-migrants-in-israel-worse-than-terrorists\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Massive arrival of illegal African migrants in Israel worse than terrorists&#8221;-\u00a0  Israeli PM"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"program--News programBlockHeader\">Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said the electronic barrier placed at the Israeli-Egyptian border had saved Israel from jihadist attacks ,describing the massive arrival of illegal African migrants as the \u201cworst\u201d threat than that of terrorists in the Sinai peninsula.<\/div>\n<section class=\"article-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<section class=\"article__body\">\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<div class=\"article-content__text article-content__left-column\">\n<p>At a conference to discuss the development of Israel\u2019s southern region, Netanyahu said \u201cwithout this barrier, we would face serious terrorist attacks from Sinai and, worse, a massive influx of illegal African migrants\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the Israeli Interior ministry , 42,000 African migrants live in Israel, mainly from Sudan and Eritrea.<\/p>\n<p>The vast majority arrived after 2007 by infiltrating from Egyptian Sinai, where the border with Israel was porous at the time.<\/p>\n<p>A controversial government plan foresees the imminent expulsion of thousands of African migrants who have entered the country illegally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe talk about a Jewish and democratic state but how can we ensure that it remains Jewish with 50,000 or 100,000 migrants per year?\u201cNetanyahu asked.<\/p>\n<p>He added \u201cone million, one and a half million and you can close the barracks\u201d, welcoming the fact that \u201cinstead of closing the barracks, a barrier has been installed\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In 2010, the Israeli government approved the construction of the electronic barrier between Egypt and Israel to block illegal immigration, drug and arms trafficking and \u201cterrorist infiltration\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The barrier, which was completed in 2014, extends along the 242 km border between Israel and Egypt from the southern tip of the Gaza Strip to the city of Eilat.<\/p>\n<p>On 9 February, the Egyptian armed forces launched an extensive anti-Jihadist campaign particularly focusing on the Sinai peninsula where the Islamic State group was very active.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span class=\"caps\">AFP<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said the electronic barrier placed at the Israeli-Egyptian border had saved Israel from jihadist attacks ,describing the massive arrival of illegal African migrants as the \u201cworst\u201d threat than that of terrorists in the Sinai peninsula.
