\"Biafra\u00a0 \u00a0 Nov 15, 2017: \u00a0Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday started his tour of the country\u2019s southeast \u2013 known to be the heartland of the Igbo people.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It is Buhari\u2019s first visit to the region since taking office in 2015. It also came amidst tensions over deadly clashes between the Nigerian army and separatist group, the Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB<\/span>).<\/p>\n

Buhari arrived in Ebonyi State where he was received by the governor and other top brass of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC<\/span>).<\/p>\n

He was also conferred with a top chieftaincy title in Igboland. The two titles were \u201cEnyioma 1 of Ebonyi and Ochioha Ndi Igbo 1.\u201d \u201cEnyioma 1\u201d means My Number 1 Good Friend, and \u201cOchioha Ndi Igbo 1\u201d means Overall Leader Number 1 of the Igbo people.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Local media reports that there was heightened security presence during Buhari\u2019s engagements including the hovering of a surveillance helicopter over capital of Ebonyi state, Abakaliki.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

He heads next to Anambra State where a governorship election is slated to be held on November 18. IPOB<\/span> have called on the people to boycott the polls adding a threat of death for all persons who defy their call.<\/p>\n

The group had also threatened to disrupt Buhari\u2019s visit to the southeast. They are pushing for a seperate Republic of Biafra, an earlier struggle that 50 years ago led to the loss of over a million lives.<\/p>\n

Buhari is on record to have said that the unity of Nigeria was non-negotiable. The Army\u2019s clashes with IPOB<\/span> has led to deaths and detentions. IPOB<\/span> leader Nnamdi Kanu is missing after a military raid on his family compound in Umuahia, capital of Abia state.<\/p>\n
