It was made up of young, world-class professionals, who came home to work. Some of those professionals are now political leaders, governors and world leaders in their own right,\u201d Abubakar claimed in his letter.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ba62\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\">\u201cIf you ask what our first task was, coming into government in 1999, it was to bring stability to the economy after decades of military rule.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\">\u201cFor example, between 1999 and 2003, oil prices then were hovering between $16 and $28 yet we managed to pay up salary arrears from decades back, clear up our national debts and built up foreign reserves. Our GDP grew at the fastest rate we\u2019ve seen since the return to democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>OSINBAJO NOT TO BLAME FOR BUHARI\u2019S FAILURE<\/h4>\n<div id=\"attachment_220865\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-220865 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thecable.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Osinbajo-and-atiku.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"566\" height=\"320\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Osinbjao and Atiku<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>He added that Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo cannot be held responsible for the \u201cfailure\u201d of Buhari\u2019s government, adding that \u201cVPs only do what they are allowed to do\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirstly, as VP, I can only be judged on the responsibilities I was given. A VP obviously is not the driver of government. For example, you can\u2019t blame Prof Osinbajo for all that is going on with the current government. He can only do what he\u2019s allowed to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>ABUBAKAR \u2018STOPPED\u2019 OBASANJO FROM BECOMING MUGABE<\/h4>\n<div id=\"attachment_220867\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-220867\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thecable.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Obasanjo-and-Mugabe.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Obasanjo and Mugabe<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Abubakar said he was \u201clargely frozen out in the second term\u201d of the Obasanjo-Atiku tenure, claiming that Obasanjo wanted presidential tenure elongated beyond 10 years, risking having a Mugabe in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI regret that we had that disagreement with my boss. Some say I was disloyal, but I looked at the events in Zimbabwe recently, and it gives me confidence that I did the right thing fighting the attempts to elongate the presidential tenure beyond eight years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I did not win that fight, do you think we would be having a discussion on young people getting into leadership today?\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>HE \u2018IS THE REASON\u2019 IGODYE HAS A FLOURISHING CAREER<\/h4>\n<div id=\"attachment_168973\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-168973 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thecable.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IGoDye.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"353\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">IGoDye<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Abubakar adds that he oversaw the telecoms revolution in Nigeria, and he is the reason why young people like IGoDye have a great career \u2014 which leveraged on the power of telecommunications.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI oversaw the telecoms revolution, which is why young people like you, I Go Dye, now have a flourishing career. Under our tenure, we witnessed a large repatriation of Nigerians back to Nigeria, driven by the hope of the recovering economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is sad that many of those young people are heading back abroad now \u2014 this is to show you that leadership matters.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>ABUBAKAR \u2018NOT MESSIAH PROMISING $1 = N1\u2019<\/h4>\n<div id=\"attachment_139272\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-139272\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thecable.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/coinss.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"356\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">When last did you spend or see one naira?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Abubakar took a slight jab at the All Progressive Congress, who were reported by NAN in 2015, to have promised dramatic naira to dollar recovery.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cI Go Dye, I\u2019m not a messiah. I do not promise Eldorado or $1 = N1. But I always ask to look at the economic progress we made under my leadership and what I am doing in private business and judge me by those.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople say I became rich in government. It\u2019s a lie. I had hundreds of millions of dollars in assets declared in 1999.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>ABUBAKAR \u2018BROUGHT\u2019 OKONJO-IWEALA TO WORK FOR OBASANJO<\/h4>\n<div id=\"attachment_177242\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-177242\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thecable.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Okonjo-Iweala.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"409\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Okonjo-Iweala joined Obasanjo\u2019s administration after over 20 years at the World Bank<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The former VP also claimed to have been the one who lured former World Bank managing director, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to come home and work for Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI went to the World Bank and met a bright lady, convinced her to come back home, and she became a star in our government. To show you we had effective leadership, the same lady could not replicate her exploits under a different government.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>ABUBAKAR \u2018LARGEST EMPLOYER OF LABOUR IN ADAMAWA AFTER STATE GOVT\u2019<\/h4>\n<div id=\"attachment_220869\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-220869\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thecable.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Faro-Adama-beverages.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"293\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Abubakar owns Adama Beverages, producer of The Faro Family in Adamawa<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>He claimed to have created 300,000 jobs directly or indirectly in Adamawa, and that he is only second to the state government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my home state of Adamawa for example, I\u2019ve created over 50,000 direct jobs and 250,000 indirect ones. We are the largest private employers of labour in the state only second to the state government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not a lot, but it does help reduce unemployment. Who do you think are holding those jobs? Yes, young people.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>ABUBAKAR \u2018RESPONSIBLE FOR\u2019 STRONG NIGERIAN BANKS<\/h4>\n<p>He says his legacy as VP \u201cis the banking consolidation process, for which I gave political backing for. Many big people were putting a lot of political pressure to not change the status quo, but we knew that if that consolidation was not done, Nigeria could not grow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause of that banking consolidation, Nigerian banks don\u2019t fail anymore the way they used to.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>EL-RUFAI SWORE ABUBAKAR DIDN\u2019T INTERFERE WITH PRIVATISATION<\/h4>\n<div id=\"attachment_217479\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-217479\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thecable.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Nasir-El-Rufai1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nasir el-Rufai<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Abubakar said he was in charge of the privatisation process, and many of the bidders were his friend, considering he was a wealthy man before he went into government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid I use my influence to get them better deals? No. As the then DG of BPE testified under oath, I never used my position to interfere with his work,\u201d Abubakar said, embedding a video where Nasir el-Rufai, now Kaduna governor swore to God that no one interfered in his work.<\/p>\n<h4>THERE\u2019S A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NAIJA AND NIGERIA<\/h4>\n<div id=\"attachment_182923\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-182923 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thecable.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Wizkid-Davido.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"577\" height=\"331\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Davido, Wizkid are from Naija NOT Nigeria<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>We did not see this coming: there is a difference between Nigeria and Naija. Wizkid, Asa, IGoDye, Iwobi, belong to Naija, while failing leaders and Boko Haram belong to Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p id=\"344d\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\">\u201cNaija embodies the hopes and dreams of young Nigerians, the country they love and long to go home to when they are abroad. Naija is the country that brings them pride in music, film, comedy, fashion, and technology. It is the country of Wiz Kid, Asa, David O, Tuface, the Olympic bobsled team, Iwobi and Don Jazzy Again.<\/p>\n<p id=\"6b61\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\">\u201cNigeria on the other hand, is the country of their parents, the country where leaders are constantly failing them, of Boko Haram, of herdsmen violence, of recessions and joblessness. Our young people need us to make our country live up to the aspirations of Naija by fixing the problems associated with Nigeria,\u201d Abubakar wrote.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where does Abubakar want to be president?
