{"id":4699,"date":"2017-12-13T21:56:00","date_gmt":"2017-12-14T04:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nigerianews.ca\/?p=4699"},"modified":"2017-12-13T22:03:55","modified_gmt":"2017-12-14T05:03:55","slug":"4699-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nigerianews.ca\/4699-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Walt Disney Wants To Buy 21st Century Fox For $60bn?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"featured-area\">\n<figure class=\"single-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"attachment-jannah-image-post wp-post-image aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/aledeh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/FB_IMG_1513166880462.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"712\" height=\"423\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-content entry clearfix\">\n<p>December 14, 2017: Walt Disney is close to confirming a deal to buy 21st Century Fox\u2019s entertainment assets for about $60bn, reports say.<\/p>\n<p>The sale would include the 20th Century Fox film studio and the Sky and Star satellite broadcasters in the UK, Europe and Asia. \u00a0Disney was left as the front runner after Comcast, the NBC owner, dropped out of the race on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The Financial Times\u00a0said talks about the price were continuing on Tuesday. \u00a0CNBC reported\u00a0that Fox and Disney were on a \u201cglide path\u201d for an announcement on Thursday, according to people familiar with the negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>The Murdoch family was said to favour a deal with Disney because it would rather be paid in the entertainment giant\u2019s shares than Comcast stock.<\/p>\n<p>A deal with Disney could also face fewer US regulatory hurdles, although it is extremely unlikely to be waved through. \u00a0Also in question is what will happen to 21st Century Fox\u2019s bid to buy the 61% of Sky that it does not already own.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-22432 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/aledeh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/FB_IMG_1513166874435-300x174.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"498\" height=\"289\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The deal is already under scrutiny by the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which is expected to publish its provisional findings in January.<\/p>\n<p>It is not clear whether Disney will continue with the takeover if it buys the 39% stake from 21st Century Fox as part of the wider transaction.<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Horsman, analyst at Mediatique, told Variety magazine that the CMA is likely to continue probing the deal. \u201cThey\u2019ve done all the work. I\u2019m pretty sure they\u2019re going to announce a decision,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The assets being sold by Fox include its FX and National Geographic cable channels, 22 regional US sports networks and the company\u2019s stake in the Hulu streaming platform in the US.<\/p>\n<p>It would also add to Disney\u2019s extensive film and television library, with movies such as Avatar and Deadpool, as well as small screen hits including The Simpsons and Modern Family.<\/p>\n<p>The Fox broadcast network, Fox News and Fox Sports would remain under the Murdochs\u2019 control.<\/p>\n<p>As well as its film studio, Disney also owns the ESPN sports network and cable channels.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Murdoch\u2019s decision to sell most of Fox has surprised many commentators given his desire to continually expand his media empire over the past five decades.<\/p>\n<p>Talks were understood to have been held between the two companies in November but did not result in an agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Negotiations then restarted earlier this month.\u00a0Shares in Disney rose 0.5% in New York on Tuesday, valuing the company at $162bn, while 21st Century Fox added 1%, valuing it at $62.6bn.<\/p>\n<p>Fox shares have jumped by close to a third over the past three months.<\/p>\n<p>Source: BBC<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>December 14, 2017: Walt Disney is close to confirming a deal to buy 21st Century Fox\u2019s entertainment assets for about $60bn, reports say.
