{"id":5007,"date":"2017-12-20T01:02:15","date_gmt":"2017-12-20T08:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nigerianews.ca\/?p=5007"},"modified":"2017-12-20T01:02:29","modified_gmt":"2017-12-20T08:02:29","slug":"nigerias-pengassan-calls-strike-talks-fail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nigerianews.ca\/nigerias-pengassan-calls-strike-talks-fail\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria&#8217;s PENGASSAN calls for strike after talks fail"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"program--News programBlockHeader\">\n<h1 class=\"article__title\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive lazyloaded aligncenter\" style=\"font-size: 16px\" src=\"https:\/\/static.euronews.com\/articles\/415105\/400x225_415105.jpg?1513506383\" alt=\"Nigeria's major oil union calls for strike after talks fail\" width=\"837\" height=\"470\" \/><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<section class=\"article-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<section class=\"article__body\">\n<header class=\"article__header hidden-in-basic\">\n<div class=\"article__meta\">\n<address class=\"article__author\">with Reuters<\/address>\n<\/div>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<div class=\"article-content__text article-content__left-column\">\n<p>December 20, 2017:\u00a0 A major Nigerian oil union said on Saturday it would launch a strike from Monday after talks aimed at resolving a dispute with domestic oil and gas companies reached a deadlock.<\/p>\n<div class=\"teads-inread\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"teads-ui-components-credits\">The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (<span class=\"caps\">PENGASSAN<\/span>), whose members mainly work in the upstream oil industry, is clashing with the companies over the laying off of union members.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The strike could hit Nigeria\u2019s oil production and dent exports, as they did in December last year during a\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">PENGASSAN<\/span>\u00a0action against ExxonMobil.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPENGASSAN has commenced mobilization for the strike,\u201d a spokeswoman for the union said.<\/p>\n<p>The dispute arose after domestic oil and gas companies and marginal field operators laid off union members. Marginal fields refer to discoveries made by oil majors during exploration of larger acreage but which have been left for others to develop.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"caps\">PENGASSAN<\/span>\u00a0has asked the government to force the management of those companies to recall their laid off workers.
