10 things we now know about modern slavery through Libya:
By Dr. Joe Abah @DrJoeAbah
1. Youth involved are not sleeping under the bridge in Lagos. Most are artisans and some are even graduates mostly from Edo and Delta States
2. It’s been going on for years
3. Parents encourage it and even initiate it.
4. Most invest between N300k and N1m on the venture – enough to start or expand a business.
5. Edo & Delta State govts and the FGN can do more on youth unemployment & orientation.
6. The borders in the north are virtually non-existent. I understand there are more than 100 exits
7. The govts of Chad and Niger can do more to stem the tide
8. Libya is essentially an outlaw state now.
9. Nigerians are the prime movers behind the slave trade.
10. The FGN needs to tackle this as a national priority.
Finally, many Nigerians are the devil in human form.
