The announcement of the chairmanship and membership of the Boards was made by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

Senator Francis Okpozodied on December 26, 2016, with Buhari issuing a statement of commiseration on December 27, 2016 to mourn his death. Okpozo was, however, on Friday named to the Board Chairman of the Nigerian Press Council.

In December 2016, Buhari mourned the death of Sen. Francis Okpozo and expressed his condolences to the government and people of Delta State on the death of Chief Francis Okpozo.

The statement was released by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, through which President Buhari commiserated with “the family and friends of the late senator.

Until his death, Late Okpozo was a Second Republic senator and member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Okpozo was, however, on Friday named to the Board of the Nigerian Press Council.
