The Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka says if he meets President Muhammad Buhari, he would say to him, “ “Mr President, you are under a trance”.
Soyinka who said this at a news briefing on Tuesday in Lagos expressed his disappointment with the way Mr President has handled the recurrence cases of herders-farmers clashes across the country.
According to the Nobel Laureate, most of the errors of the current administration are unforced.
“If I meet him, I would say: Mr President, I think you are under a trance. The sooner he gets out of it the better. So many unforced errors are going on,” Soyinka said.
“Too many things are happening now which made me say that. I think he is under a trance,” Soyinka said.
He added that the sooner the President gets out of the trance, the better for the nation.
When asked to explain the form of trance which he thinks the President was in, the Nobel laureate said he does not know but this is can be attributed to the ‘errors’ by the Buhari-led administration.
“I don’t know. So many unforced errors. Take for instance the reinstatement of the fellow who was sacked from NHIS (suspended Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Usman Yusuf). He was reinstated by the President.
“What is that about? What is going on? It is a certain kind of alienation from reality is going on,” Soyinka said.
Professor Soyinka earlier told journalists during the interview that the phenomenon of attacks by armed herdsmen needs organised resistance by Nigerians. He further described the armed herdsmen as a new breed of Boko Haram and internal colonialists
