419ner that scams people every Thursday in Dubai arrested

The man would drive cars worth more than Dh200,000 as part of his trick.

A fraudster who issued almost 90 bad cheques over a two-year period was recently arrested in Dubai.

His modus operandi was to issue a cheque after 1pm on Thursdays, taking advantage of the bank’s processing time lag over the weekend, reported Al Bayan.

The man would drive expensive cars valued more than Dh200,000, be accompanied by two assistants and an Asian driver, wear heady aromas and carry mobile phones worth thousands of dirhams — all to lure his victims into believing he is truly wealthy.

He was caught after arousing the suspicions of an RTA employee who noticed his purchase of a luxury car and his recurring presence at car registration centres.

The RTA employee called an officer to check the man’s identity after seeing him write a cheque for Dh5,000 greater than the car’s original value, as a way of apologizing to him for not being able to cash the cheque on the same day as all banks are closed.

The officer called him back and informed him that the man was wanted for over 90 bounced cheques issued for fake car purchases.

The conman attempted to extort the victim who owned a trading company worth millions of dirhams.

The employee was asked to detain the man until police arrived to arrest him.
