PRESS RELEASE

President Buhari made good on his promise & Pharmacists are glad!

I write to convey the depth of the appreciation of the NEC, Council and entire membership of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) to His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR on the appointment of a distinguished pharmacist, Prof. (Mrs.) Moji Christianah Adeyeye as the substantive Director General/Chief Executive Officer of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in line with the enabling statute establishing the Agency.

Prof Adeyeye is Professor of Pharmaceutics and Drug Product Development and Evaluation at the college of Pharmacy, Roosevelt University in Schaumburg, Illinois. She is a Fellow of Nigeria Academy of Science, Academic Research Fellow of American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and Fellow, Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy. The first African Woman Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists.A graduate of Pharmacy from UNN-1976. Indeed, round peg in a round hole!

This appointment is also in the spirit of repeated assurances by the Federal Government in the light of the demands of the PSN that previous lapses in the appointment of the Director General of NAFDAC be redressed once and for all.

Today registered Pharmacists under the aegis of the pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) have resolved to maximally support NAFDAC to achieve its safety margin in the regulation of the Food and Drug Sector of the economy.

The PSN wishes to also utilize the current momentum generated by the appointment of a substantive Director General of NAFDAC to solicit that the Federal Government goes all the way by constituting the governing council of NAFDAC and Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) to enable these two prime regulatory agencies in drug distribution endeavours to meet the full complement of their statutory mandates.

Finally, we assure all stakeholders and the Federal Government that the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria will continue to ensure that the appointment of our members as Chief Executive Officers of various boards of parastatals will be justified through optimal performance output.

Thank you very much Your Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR

Pharm. Ahmed I Yakasai, FPSN, FNIM, FNAPharm
